Player reception

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Jagex’s survival game left early access on 15 September, and players reviewing the 1.0 release are split almost evenly between RuneScape fans who love it and players who find it unfinished.

In short

As of 12 October, 81% of 31,384 player reviews recommend it. RuneScape fans enjoy the lore, the music and a skilling loop that feels like the series, and casual co-op groups like its relaxed pace. The players who advise against it point to lost saves and soft-locked quests, combat that feels clumsy and co-op where every player progresses alone. The day’s figure counts reviews since early access opened in April 2025, and reviews of the 1.0 release are split almost evenly.

The RuneScape world wins fans over.
The lore, the music and the skill names make the survival loop feel like RuneScape to its veterans, and nostalgia carries many of them. Its critics find the systems generic under the name.71
Many find 1.0 unfinished.
Players describe saves that vanish or corrupt, quests that reset or lock and menus that freeze. Several say the release came too early. Jagex fixed disappearing world saves on 8 October and says lost saves should return in the next update.7174
Combat divides players.
Fans like the range of weapons and magic. Critics describe enemies that lunge and aggro from far away, bosses with few attacks, and dodges and parries that don’t always respond.71
Co-op means playing side by side.
Experience, recipes, quest progress and chests belong to each player, so friends compete for the same materials. Some like that everyone can move at their own pace.71
The grind lengthens in later regions.
Players who enjoy skilling find the progress satisfying. Others say each new region takes longer for less reward.71
The latest reviews are kinder.
They report no crashes or lost saves, though input bugs and a locked quest still come up.71
